Thyroiditis

Thyroiditis encompasses a collection of auto-immune conditions that involve immune system mediated inflammation of the thyroid gland. This can manifest with neck pain, changes in thyroid function and even a goitre. Diseases classified under this umbrella include Hashimoto’s disease, post-partum thyroiditis and DeQuervain’s subacute thyroiditis. Surgery is rarely required for these diseases but can become necessary if associated with a symptomatic goitre.
