Pancreas Problems
The pancreas is a soft, yellow gland that sits in the abdomen under the stomach and liver. It is vital for health and in particular is responsible for digestion/absorption of food and regulation of blood sugar levels with production of insulin. Owing to its diverse responsibilities, it is also at risk of developing disease that may cause many and various clinical problems.
Pancreatic Surgery
Facing pancreatic surgery (or pancreatectomy) can be a daunting prospect. Pancreatic surgery can be complex and there are many potential complications. It is however reassuring to know that outcomes after pancreatectomy are generally good. It is important however that you discuss the known risks of surgery with an experienced ANZHPBA recognised surgeon.
Professor Gundara will discuss the options with you and if surgery is required he will spend time outlining the potential complications that can be encountered. Like all surgery, it is not risk free but seeing a sub-specialist with experience and training in this area can assist in achieving an optimal longer term outcome.
